PRESENCE STATEMENT
PRESENCE will be an exhibition of oil on linen and works on paper paintings exploring the potency of archetypal symbols, particularly the trans-cultural/religious tree-of-life.

I investigate what these symbols may mean in the 21st century as we live locally in an increasingly globalised world. I play with perspective to deliberately create ambiguous images which provoke questions and conversations about how we view ourselves and others.

The exhibition is called PRESENCE to suggest that by exploring new perspectives we may see and feel things which we may not otherwise see or feel.

FRISSON
My first solo exhibition in over two and half years opens on Thursday 18 March @ Graydon Gallery, 29 Merthyr Rd, New Farm, Brisbane. The exhibition is called FRISSON and will be up from 16-28 March. It can be viewed from 1 pm on Tuesday 16 March. The exhibition will be opened by Dr. Christine Dauber PhD, BA, BA Honours (Art History) University of Queensland. She comments about my work,'It must first be understood that Brimblecombe–Fox is not so much concerned with landscape painting per se, but in a Warburgian sense, searches for the universal connections, or common ground between people, races and religions. Thus, she uses the “tree of life” or “tree of knowledge” as a repetitive motif and in so doing, deploys its spiritual associations as a global referent.'

I am a finalist in the Stanthorpe Art Award which is announced Friday 26 February. The judge is John McDonald, Sydney Monring Herald art critic and author.

I have had 3 works selected for 'Brisbane Senses: Rotary Art Spectacular' by curator Simon Wright, Director of Qld College Of Art Gallery and lecturer. This opens March 18 at Brisbane's Riverside Centre.

NEWS FROM 2008

I am having a small exhibition at Maleny's Upfront Club. 'TRAJECTORY: From the intimate to the universal and back again' will open on Thursday October 23 and continue until 18 November.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT
TRAJECTORY:
From the intimate to the universal and back again

The paintings in the exhibition speak about the space between the macro and micro of life in an increasingly globalised world seen through local eyes. I am intrigued by vastness and at the same time the intimate details which make up the vastness. This vastness exists in the material world but also within consciousness. I am interested in stimulating conversations about similarities between people rather than focusing on differences. I play with perspective as a metaphor for how we view ourselves and others. It is within the distance or space of perspective that a compassionate potential exists….possibly providing new pathways to peace on Earth.
