Professional Memberships

Queensland Art Gallery Foundation

2006 - 2007 Chairman Australia Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry [AACCI] Queensland Chapter.

I joined the AACCI when I was exhibiting in the UAE:

The AACCI represents Australian businesses with interests in the Arab League countries of the Middle East and North Africa. As Qld Chapter Chair I chaired monthly meetings, liaised with the National Office in Canberra, attended meetings in Canberra, spoke on behalf of business members at functions, liaised with State and Federal government departments such at DFAT, Austrade and other trade offices. I helped facilitate various business and social functions where AACCI members could meet other business people with commercial activity in the region, Government representatives, Australian Ambassadors as well as Heads of Missions [Ambassadors, Consul Generals and Consuls] from Arab League countries. I assisted in procuring funding and sponsorship for some of these functions.

As Acting, and then the elected, Chairman of the Queensland Chapter of the AACCI:

  • Chaired monthly meetings.
  • Liaised with the Canberra Head Office, attended national meetings in Canberra, met and talked with a number of Arab Ambassadors and Consuls at meetings, and other events, in Canberra and Brisbane.
  • I negotiated links with the Brisbane City Council and the Brisbane Institute.
  • Forged stronger links with both the Brisbane DFAT and Austrade offices.
  • In liaison with the Queensland Government’s Trade Office for India and the Middle East, headed by Hon. Mike Ahern, I organized events for AACCI members when visiting Arab ambassadors/consuls were in Brisbane.
  • I invited the Moroccan Ambassador and his wife to be the AACCI special guests at the 2006 Christmas party, which was also attended by Austrade and Queensland Government officials, plus representation from Multiplex, which had agreed to the AACCI approach to sponsor the Ambassador’s visit.
  • As Chairman, I met and assisted many people with business interests in the Middle East. These businesses ranged across the spectrum from engineering to interior design, construction to water infrastructure, fashion to landscape design and so on.
