The earliest work in the 'Other Lands' exhibition and part of a series of “object” drawings the artist created in the late 1980’s. The artist liaised with the local police who visited Neighbourhood Watch meetings to study and draw the various objects, not all of which could actually be loaned to the artist for obvious reasons. The objects, all rendered in full colour with layers of colour pencil work included hints of the blue and red light from a flashing police light, something the artist returned to with the mixed media work, Deckard’s Buddy, in 2008. From left to right in two rows the objects, all actual size, are: one police service issue .45 Colt Revolver, one Police Association diary for 1988, one set of police issue hand-cuffs, one Colt Revolver leather holster, one size 71/2 police hat, viewed from beneath to reveal the blue silk lining, on police issue baton with leather strap, one police station white cup and saucer, used, and one bunch of red roses, still in a clear cellophane wrap. The artist created the work in response to the Walsh Street shootings of two police men earlier that year. The drawing was entered in the Police Art Show of that year and received a minor award.
