2007 'MICROCOSM - LAYERS OF LIFE'
SOLO EXHIBITION APRIL 2007 Doggett Street Studio, Newstead.
The works in this exhibition are inspired by observations of patterns, forms and cycles in the life forms of my garden, between the Summer solstice and the Autumn equinox.
My interest lies in the 'microcosm' - the layers of life - that make up and inhabit a particular place or environment. Some elements are landmarks; others are seasonal and pass. I spend time outdoors each day observing the connections between plant, insect, fungi, reptile and bird life. Above and below the ground they grow, interact, feed, breathe and cycle energy around us.
I am inspired by the individual variety, intricate detail and unique forms of what may at first appear to be simple elements - leaves, branches, insect, seed heads. In a way it is the connection of all these seperate elements that creates the 'land-scape'; and distinguishes one place from another.
