DOB: 2.8.79 Jonathon Oxlade studied Illustration and Sculpture at the Queensland College of Art, since leaving he has trained with Kid Praha in the Czech Republic focussing on puppet design and construction. He works as a freelance Theatre Designer, Illustrator and Puppeteer. He has designed set and costumes for LIVE ACTS ON STAGE and BAAL for QUT, MOTOR MOUTH for QPAC, QTC and Kite Theatre, BOAT for Kite Theatre, WHERE IS JOY, BLACK CHRISTMAS and ALL ABOARD for independents, ZOO-ILLOGICAL for Kite Theatre and Schnapper Head, BROWN and SCRIBBLE for Brown Room, BITIN' BACK for Koomeba Jdarra, THE HOODS for The Real TV Project, SUB-CON WARRIOR 1 and 2 for Zen Zen Zo. CRECHE AND BURN, POWER TRIP, THE DANCE OF JEREMIAH and SUMMER WONDERLAND for LaBoite Theatre, LUMINA for Circa, SHOW, LILY CANT SLEEP, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, PUSS IN BOOTS, FUNNY VOICES and JOHN GABRIEL BORKMAN for The Queensland Theatre Company, DR EGG AND THE MAN WITH NO EAR for The Sydney Opera House, Victorian Arts Centre and Red Moon, DOCH with THE GREAT SIBERIAN CIRCUS for QPAC and BOOB BAH! for Windmill Performing Arts, ELECTRONIQUE and THE FIVEWAYS for The Brisbane Festival. MR FREEZY for Arena Theatre Company and ATTACK OF THE ATTACKING ATTACKERS for The Escapists which debuted at Laboite Theatre. Recently Jonathon designed GOODBYE VAUDEVILLE CHARLIE MUDD for Arena Thetare Company and The Malthouse. Jonathon is currently designing THE WIZARD OF OZ for Windmill. Jonathon has designed and made puppets for The Queensland Theatre Company’s THE ORPHANGE PROJECT, LaBoite Theatre’s HALF AND HALF and UKULELE MEKULELE, Divaldlo Continuo’s KRATOCHVILLENI (Prague), and for companies including Kite Theatre, Strut 'n' Fret, IZIT Entertainment and Theatre of Image. As a performer Jonathon has created object and puppetry based performances for The QUEENSLAND ART GALLERY in 2004 and 2005, The Sydney International Puppet Festival, The Angry Mime and SOOB Festival, The Tiny Top at the Melbourne Festival and the Adelaide Fringe Festival. Jonathon recently performed in ATTACK OF THE ATTACKING ATTACKERS. Jonathon also creates installation works including THE RED TREE installation for QPACS Out of the Box, has designed visual and performance art based workshops for students, curated exhibitions, including CHERISH for QPAC'S OOTB, designed for music clips, and has recently completed illustrations for a new Picture Book for Hachette Livre/Lothian books called THE EMPTY CITY, written by David Megarrity, shortlisted for the CRICHTON award in 2008. Jonathon was recently Visual Artist for WINDMILL performing arts rebrand and 2008 program. Jonathon received 2005 Matilda Awards; Best Designer for 'A CHRISTMAS CAROL' and Contribution to Queensland Theatre and 2008 Matilda Award; Best Designer for 'ATTACK OF THE ATTACKING ATTACkERS' In 2007 Jonathon was awarded the 'Lord Mayors Fellowship grant' to attend the PRAGUE QUADRENNIEL of scenography and Theatre Architecture. Jonathon is one quarter of THE ESCAPISTS Makers of Theatre and Performance.
