  Goodbye Doggett Street

The final Doggett Street Studio exhibition at its current location at 85 Doggett Street, Newstead - opens on Friday 15 March (6-8pm) and continues on Saturday 16 March (10am-4pm). The exhibition will feature the first and last ever sale of artworks by Allyson Reynolds, Scott Whitaker and Stephen Mok.

While Doggett Street Studio will be closing at its current location, it will continue to do projects into the future.

Future projects include curating an upcoming exhibition of Ted Barraclough's sculpture at the Roma on Bungil Gallery in May and curating a collaborative installation by painter Allyson Reynolds and musician Heinz Riegler at the Caboolture Regional Art Gallery in June.

It's business as usual at artHIVES. While artHIVES was created at Doggett Street Studio, it is in fact a separate entity and will continue to operate regardless of what Doggett Street Studio evolves into.

Margaret Genever and Laurel McKenzie - Body Language
Body Languages, an exhibition by Margaret Genever and Laurel McKenzie at ArtRoom@Vivo, Palm Cove, opens 22 March and continues to 21 May 2013.

In their third small group exhibition at Vivo, Margaret and Laurel focus on human bodies and the spaces that they occupy. Margaret’s works are drypoint prints that have been inscribed directly from the model onto perspex plates then printed with chine collé in limited editions. The figures, located in the studio environment, are recorded with frank observation and the directness of the drypoint medium. The introduction of non-human animals into the mise en scène underscores Margaret’s ongoing interest in the interactions between human and non-human animal species.

Laurel works with mediated representations of women - reiterations of stereotypical women from the popular media. The images are compiled from collages of torn and cut paper which are scanned, further layered and manipulated in the digital environment and printed onto canvas with archival pigment inks. These works continue the tradition of working with collage/photo-montage as a feminist strategy that began with Berlin Dada artist Hannah Hoch in the 1920s. The small canvases are stretched and box framed.

Artroom@Vivo is located at 49 Williams Esplanade, Palm Cove, Qld. Open daily 7am-11pm.  07 4059 0944
