This incident was first brought to my attention by H V Morton’s “Who Moved the Stone?” many years ago. In the 1990s I did some initial work depicting the young man, not having seen a representation of the event before. However it wasn’t till encountering Stanley Spencer’s first version of ‘The Betrayal” in the UK in 2007 that I decided to realise the project, taking a lead from the Cookham painter.

Sean Gladding, a UK theologian living in USA, is writing a blog called "The Naked Man", about Mark's Gospel and includes an image of this painting. Here is a link to the introductory post for the series:
