  • Workshop 1          Saturday, 11th of February

‘GETTING STARTED WITH WATERCOLOUR – TRY BEFORE YOU BUY’ Jan will supply all the materials you need to ‘have a go’ at watercolour painting. Lots of information will be provided and students will learn step-by-step techniques while creating small painting studies. Discover what makes watercolour such an enjoyable and popular medium.

  • Workshop 2         Saturday, 11th of March

‘WATERCOLOUR PROJECT 1 – PAINTING WHITE FLOWERS’ This project caters for all skill levels. The day will be spent painting the subtleties of colours found in white flowers and learning how to maximise contrast. All reference material will be provided and it is not essential to have drawing skills.

  • Workshop 3        Saturday, 8th of April

‘GETTING STARTED IN COLOURED PENCILS - TRY BEFORE YOU BUY’ Jan will supply all the materials you need to ‘have a go’ at using coloured pencils as a fine art medium. Lots of information will be included and students will learn step-by-step techniques to create a small pencil artwork. The pencils provided will be yours to keep! This workshop is a wonderful introduction to using coloured pencils like an artist, rather than just a colouring -in tool.

  • Workshop 4       Saturday, 10th of June

COLOURED PENCILS –WET AND DRY’ This workshop is designed for whatever coloured pencils you may own, whether oil based, wax based or water-soluble. Learn about using solvents for non water-soluble pencils and how to establish an underlay to quicken the colouring process. After some short exercises and information, students will create a coloured pencil painting with a variety of wet and dry techniques.

  • Workshop 5      Saturday, 12th of August

‘WATERCOLOUR PROJECT 2 – STILL-LIFE STUDY. UNDERSTANDING LIGHT & SHADOWS’ A knowledge of the colour and temperature of light and shadows is essential for anyone wishing to improve their art skills. Jan will include lots of information and demonstrations to clarify this subject that is often either misunderstood or unknown about at all. Completing a simple still-life painting will consolidate this new information. The workshop is suitable for all skill levels.

  • Workshop 6       Saturday, 9th  of September

‘TEXTURES IN COLOURED PENCILS 1 – HAIR, FEATHERS AND FUR’ Gain the skills and confidence needed to tackle these more complicated subjects. Students will complete a number of small studies of different textures with step-by-step instructions. Ideally, this workshop is designed for those who have either attended previous colour pencil workshops or who already know the basics.

  • Workshop  7      Saturday, 14th of October

‘WATERCOLOUR PROJECT 3 – CREATING MOOD WITH NEUTRAL TINT’ Learn how to establish subdued light effects with Neutral Tint, a grey paint pigment that changes the chroma of other colours without a temperature bias. Jan loves using this versatile pigment and you will also become enthused after seeing it in action in the project provided! Bring a tube or learn how to mix it from colours in your palette.

  • Workshop 8      Saturday, 11th of November

‘TEXTURES IN COLOURED PENCILS 2 – MAN-MADE MATERIALS’ Shiny and matte, rough and smooth, rigid and flowing; these are just some of the textures you’ll encounter when rendering fabric, furniture, glass and metal etc. Gain the skills and confidence needed to tackle these more complicated subjects. Students will complete a number of small studies of different textures with step-by-step instructions. Ideally, this workshop is designed for those who have either attended previous colour pencil workshops or who already know the basics.

  • Workshop 9     Saturday, 9th of December

‘COMBINING WATERCOLOUR, COLOURED PENCILS AND INK’ Get the creative juices flowing just in time for the Christmas break! You will be inspired by the variety of possibilities when using these mediums together. There will be lots of projects to choose from. You may also bring any ‘failed’ watercolour paintings to learn how to correct and/or improve them with the addition of coloured pencils and /or ink pen. Some previous basic experience in these mediums is necessary.
