‘PORTRAITS IN COLOURED PENCIL’ Coloured pencils are a perfect medium to depict human faces. Learn how to achieve smooth blending of skin colours, gradations, edge and tonal changes, plus drawing skills for better realism in your portraits.
- Workshop 2 Saturday, 10th of March
‘WATERCOLOUR ILLUSTRATIONS’ This workshop caters for all skill levels. The day will be spent painting a large range of simple subjects with a quick approach. Beginners are welcome and experienced artists will benefit from learning new styles. A fun time with great results is guaranteed!
- Workshop 3 Saturday, 14th of April
‘PEN AND WASH’ Bring along your favourite travel photos (or use mine) to learn the skills required for sketching with pencil, ink and pen with added washes of watercolour and/or ink. Landscapes, buildings or street scenes will be the main focus, so knowledge will be gained in the use of perspective.
- Workshop 4 Saturday, 12th of May
‘ALCOHOL INKS – EXPLORE THE POSSIBILITIES!’ Find out why these inks are becoming so popular and have a great day playing with all the potentialities. You will be introduced to a variety of techniques and inspiration is sure to flow. All skill levels are welcome. Inks, most mediums and painting surfaces provided, so this is a great introduction to a new art form!
- Workshop 5 Saturday, 9th of June
‘CREATIVE COLOURED PENCIL IDEAS’ Using your favourite references, we will explore various approaches to produce an artwork that is truly unique. With brain-storming and mind maps, we will help each other formulate ideas to translate into an individual artwork in coloured pencils (with the possibility of adding other mediums).
- Workshop 6 Saturday, 14th of July
‘BLACK AND WHITE DRAWINGS’ Correct tonal representations are the key to an effective black and white artwork. You will be taught a formula to build up values and to ‘see’ them accurately. Graphite pencils will be used, but knowledge gained will apply to all future mediums.
- Workshop 7 Saturday, 11h of August
‘EXPERIMENTAL LANDSCAPES IN WATERCOLOUR AND INK’ This is a ‘play and see what happens’ workshop, where different mediums applied to a combination of watercolour and ink will result in lovely surprises. These explorations will then develop into paintings based on nature and landscapes.
- Workshop 8 Saturday, 8th of September
‘COLOURFUL FLORALS IN WATERCOLOUR’ Excite the senses and celebrate the start of Spring with painting flowers in bright, bold colours! Starting with small studies, you will then choose a colour scheme to liven up a dull reference and create a whole new palette where colour reigns.
- Workshop 9 Saturday, 13th of October
‘COLOUR MIXING AND RECIPES IN WATERCOLOUR’ Mixing the right colour has always been one of the greatest challenges for artists. Stop struggling and learn how to make specific hues with Jan’s instruction using the colour wheel and charts. These handy tools will be used for many years to come. All templates on watercolour paper will be provided. Now is the time to finally have those references you always wanted but never got around to making yourself! Plus you’ll learn how to mix common paint colours such as Indigo Blue, Hooker’s Green, Alizarin etc. from just 3 primaries.
- Workshop 10 Saturday, 10th of November
‘DRAWING ON PREPARED PAPERS’ Bring your favourite drawing medium to render artworks on special papers. The paper surfaces will be fashioned during the morning using some surprising techniques. You will be amazed at what a difference this will make, elevating drawings from a plain white background to a mixed-media artwork.
- Workshop 11 Saturday, 8th of December
‘WATERCOLOUR ON YUPO’ Yupo is a polypropylene surface that reacts very differently to watercolour paint than traditional papers. Stencilling, stamping and wiping back to white are all techniques made possible on Yupo. Explore genres from abstraction to representationalism and have heaps of fun in the process. No drawing skills are required, so this makes it a perfect workshop for beginners or artists looking for new methods and inspiration.
